OASIS / Organization for Structured Information Standards

promote the adoption of product-independent standards for

programs are built from software objects that do particular jobs.
Objects often have functions that resemble those in the real world.
ODBC / Open Database Connectivity
ODBC is an open standard application programming interface for
accessing a database. By using ODBC statements in a program, you can
access files in a number of different databases, including Access,
dBase, DB2, Excel, and Text. ODBC is based on and closely aligned
with The Open Group standard Structured Query Language (SQL)
Call-Level Interface. It allows programs to use SQL requests that
will access databases without having to know the proprietary
interfaces to the databases.
ODP / Open Distributed Processing
ODP defines the standards that allow the benefits of distribution of
information processing services to be obtained in an environment of
heterogeneous IT resources and multiple organisational domains.

OLE / Object Linking and Embedding
An object system created by Microsoft. OLE lets the author invoke
different editor components to create a compound document.
On the fly
"On the fly" describes activities that develop or occur dynamically
rather than as the result of something that is statically
predefined. For example, the content of a page that is sent to you
from a Web site can be developed (and varied) "on the fly" based on
dynamic factors such as the time of day, what pages the user has
looked at previously, and specific user input. The Web server calls
an application program to produce the "on-the-fly" page that is to
be returned. There are several techniques for "on-the-fly" page
development, including the Server-side include, the use of cookie ,
and Active Server Page.

E-commerce.

in competition with other players.

A company offering electronic access to a variety of services
besides those available from Internet services providers (ISPS).
Online Stores
A database of your products and services that customers browse
through the Web, select the items they want and purchase.
Open Profiling Standard
A system that gives website visitors more control over the
information they provide about themselves.
Open Source
A concept describing the development and distribution of software.
The open source movement revolves around the idea that software
evolves faster and becomes more stable as more people work on it.
Opera
Opera is a browser made by a Norwegian software house and much
admired for its small size and impressive speed. Rare commoditing in
the modern software world.
Opt-in e-mail
Opt-in e-mail is a Web marketing term for promotional e-mail that
recipients have previously requested by signing up at a Web site or
special ad banner. Typically, Web users are invited to sign up for
promotional information about one or more categories of products or
services. The marketer sending opt-in e-mail may remind the
recipient that they have previously indicated they were interested
in receiving such e-mail and that this is not spam.
OS / Operating System
The operating system is the most important part of any computer or
network. Its main role is as an interpreter between the hardware
itself -- the processor, hard disks, video system, network cards,
and so on -- and the applications that are running on the computer
which need access to those resource, such as E-mail programs,
spreadsheets and databases.
